After more than two years of travel restrictions, the FireCellCoat project team was finally able to meet in in person in Oslo on August 26th, kindly hosted by Treteknisk. This was only the second time that a face-to-face meeting was possible, after the kick-off meeting in January 2020. Fortunately, all project partners, including Fraunhofer WKI, VTT, Treteknisk and Teknos, were able to participate.
During the meeting, the latest results from each work package were presented. VTT highlighted the developments in preparation of fire-retardant MFC by phosphorylation and in coating wood with multi-layer approach. Fraunhofer WKI described progress in polymerization and coating formulations as well as in acrylic binder approach. Following this, all partners took part in discussing the testing of application and product performance, related to both interior and exterior coatings. The progress and information needs of LCA and LCC were also discussed in detail. The productive day ended with discussion on plans for dissemination and exploitation of the results as well as planning of future collaboration. Following the actual meeting, a tour of the Treteknisk facilities was provided. The three-year project is soon coming to an end and as we are performing the last trials and planning publications and potential commercial exploitation of the results, we also want to recognize what an extraordinary time the past three years has been. We have gone through periods of lockdown and moving everything to online, but have managed to generate good results and continue communication with each other regardless. Therefore, congrats to all of us are in order! Hopefully we are able to continue our fruitful collaboration in the future.
